Bromelain is a set of proteolytic enzymes extracted from the stem of pineapple. Facilitates digestive processes, counteracts swelling and intestinal meteorism resulting from poor protein digestion or enzyme, gastric and pancreatic deficiency. It has a strong anti-inflammatory and anti-edema, which is manifested by facilitating the drainage and reabsorption of hematomas. It acts on inflammatory foci by increasing the lysis of fibrin deposits in and extra vascular, facilitating the evacuation of necrotic substances and normalizing cellular metabolism. It counteracts the migration of neutrophils to the sites of acute inflammation, endothelial adhesion and leukocyte activation, all fundamental steps in the course of inflammation. Reduces several inflammatory mediators, resulting in the attenuation of swelling, redness, heat and pain. Some studies highlight its usefulness in the contrast to sinusitis and in acute or chronic inflammation at the level of the nasal mucosa, given its anti-inflammatory action and fluidizing nasal secretions.
For its fibrinolytic activity is contraindicated to those who take anticoagulants.
