Camelina sativa is an oilseed known since the Bronze Age, from the Brassicaceae family like Rapeseed, Mustard and Turnip. It is also called false flax or wild flax for its similarity with flaxseed oil. 
From the harvest it is collected some oily seed, rich in Omega 3, Omega 6 and other polyunsaturated fatty acids. It has a perfect balance between Omega-3 and Omega-6 (2:1 ratio). It is also an excellent source of Vitamin E that is famous for its anti-oxidant properties. The cultivation of Camelina has the advantage of determining a low environmental impact, because it can easily adapt to low temperatures and semi-arid climates. It can be cultivated also in marginal areas. It is a strong plant that resists to diseases, parasites and insect; for this reason, there is no need of plant protection products and herbicides.
For all these reasons the cultivation of Camelina is suitable to help the development of the poorest countries and zones and it doesn’t pollute or over-exploit the soils. This oil is cold pressed without solvents, suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
