Diosmin is a flavonoid with a venotonic and vasoprotective action, derived from citrus fruits. Causes a constriction of the veins, an increase in the resistance of the vessels and a decrease in their permeability: At the level of the veins and venules increases the parietal tone and exerts an antistasis venous action while at the level of the microcirculation increases the resistance of the capillaries and reduces their permeability. Studies have highlighted its role in reducing the processes that lead to increased permeability of vessels with edema formation. The protective effect of diosmin on vascular damage also occurs through inhibition of the release of inflammation mediators, such as prostaglandins, free radicals and cytokines. In vivo animal studies have shown that diosmin increases lymphatic drainage, resulting in a decrease of perivascular edemas.
