Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) or essential fatty acids (EFA) are called “essentials” because they are necessary for the normal physiological functions of man. They are “essentials” because they cannot be self-produced by our body, so they must be taken with food or with natural remedies supplementation.

Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids and all the others polyunsaturated fatty acids are necessary to produce energy, to build and maintain the integrity of cell membranes, to maintain good metabolic control, and for the production of platelet aggregation. For this reason, PUFA influence triglyceride metabolism, the maintenance of normal cholesterol levels, cardiovascular health and they also contrast the skin and mucous membrane dryness and help us to overcome fatigue and tiredness.

The main sources of Omega-like acids are fish and some vegetal derived food, in particular some kind of oils. Our body has the ability of transforming essential fatty acids found in vegetal food, as alpha-linolenic acid and linolenic acid, in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids directly assimilated by our body.

Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids derived from vegetal oils are ideal for vegetarians and vegans, for kids and for all the people that doesn’t eat fish or prefer vegetal sources.
